Fortescue launches green hydrogen electrolyser gigafactory in Queensland
Australia's first fully automated electrolyser manufacturing facility is set to generate new, well-paid employment opportunities and support Australia's goal of achieving net-zero emissions while bolstering the nation's manufacturing capability.
A cutting-edge green energy manufacturing center has officially opened in the Gladstone region of Queensland. Led by Fortescue Future Industries in collaboration with research institutions such as CSIRO and Central Queensland University, the facility is an important step towards our national zero emission goals.
The Fortescue hydrogen electrolyser advanced facility is equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure including fully automated production lines and cleanroom robotic assembly cells and lines with a focus on industrial-scale production.
Government backing has played a crucial role in realizing this ambitious project, with an investment of $44.9 million directed towards Fortescue Future Industries.
Speaking at the launch, Minister for Industry and Science, Ed Husic, highlighted the significance of this collaboration between government and industry. "This demonstrates our commitment to a Future Made in Australia, while also helping the country make the transition to net zero," he stated.
"We can cut emissions and increase jobs at the same time."
