Hunter Jobs Alliance advocates for establishment of a local TAFE Energy Centre of Excellence

The Hunter Jobs Alliance is a coalition of community members and labor unions, who combine advocacy efforts to position the Hunter Region at the vanguard of a low-carbon economy with community engagement focused on tangible, measurable outcomes and real projects.

A core aspect of their strategy involves advocating for the creation of quality jobs for the Hunter Region in the new low-carbon economy, ensuring that the workforce is well-equipped for the shift toward renewable energy.

Currently at the forefront of the Alliance's agenda is their advocacy for the establishment of a Newcastle based TAFE Energy Centre of Excellence.

The recent launch of the a business case for the proposal saw enthusiastic participation from key players and stakeholders, underscoring widespread community backing for this transformative initiative.

Commissioned from the University of Newcastle's Institute for Regional Futures in collaboration with specialized analysts from Turbo, the pivotal Scoping Study & Preliminary Business Case constitutes a comprehensive review of clean energy workforce demand in NSW.

Through extensive engagement with industry leaders, training providers, and subject matter experts, the study assesses the current capacity of the training system to meet the projected demands of a burgeoning clean energy workforce. It further outlines a set of design principles for the proposed Centre of Excellence, poised to bridge the gap between demand and existing training infrastructure.

Bolstered by positive responses locally, the Hunter Jobs Alliance is gearing up to take their proposal to state and federal decision makers, aiming to garner the necessary support and funding for the TAFE Energy Centre of Excellence. Their concerted efforts align with their overarching vision of securing a sustainable, prosperous future for the Hunter region.
