Matt Kean, Chair of the Climate Change Authority (CCA) and former NSW Minister for Energy, was in Newcastle today, ahead of his return in March for the Energy and Resources Lunch hosted by Business Hunter.

Mr. Kean undertook a full-day tour of the Hunter region, organised by the Committee for the Hunter. The tour included visits to Orica, Ampcontrol, and the Newcastle Institute for Energy and Resources (NIER) at the University of Newcastle, where Mr. Kean explored innovative local technologies like printed solar panels, ammonia cracking systems, and PFAS harvesting solutions.

During the tours, Mr. Kean met with key stakeholders to discuss emissions reduction, clean tech manufacturing, and strategies for industry decarbonisation. The discussions also addressed the region's clean energy needs, offshore wind potential, and the future of the Hunter Hydrogen Hub following Origin Energy's withdrawal.

The upcoming Energy and Resources Lunch offers attendees the opportunity to gain insights from Mr. Kean about the Authority’s role in shaping climate change policies, including advice on Australia’s emissions reduction targets and contributions to the Paris Agreement. The event will also cover the findings of the CCA’s 2024 Annual Progress Report and how national climate policies impact businesses in the Hunter.

As well as as an opportunity for businesses in the Hunter to stay informed and engaged in discussions that directly affect their future, the luncheon will be a great networking opportunity. Business Hunter encourages participants to connect and collaborate on common interests, particularly as the region transitions to a low-carbon economy.

The luncheon will run from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm on March 26 at McDonald Jones Stadium.
