The Hunter region recently welcomed a delegation from the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), with a focus on exploring opportunities for collaboration. The delegation, hosted by the Newcastle Institute for Energy and Resources (NIER), met with key local stakeholders to discuss potential partnerships in energy and resource industries, including hydrogen and green ammonia production.

During their visit, the JETRO group engaged with representatives from NewH2 and HunterNet Co-operative, the University of Newcastle, and the NSW Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development. They also connected with local businesses, including Orica, AuditCo, the Port of Newcastle, and Business Hunter, to gain insights into the region’s industrial and energy capabilities.

A tour of Orica provided an opportunity for both parties to discuss mutual interests in the energy sector, particularly in the areas of hydrogen and green ammonia.

HunterNet, NewH2, and other stakeholders involved expressed their appreciation for the visit, noting its potential to strengthen ties between the Hunter region and Japan, particularly in new energy sectors.
