Australia, Japan, Canada and Germany are among the countries reaffirming a commitment to fast track hydrogen production
The Hydrogen Ministerial Conference, organized by the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, was first held in Japan in 2018 as a forum to promote the utilization of hydrogen on a global scale and to further cement collaboration and innovation amongst concordant countries.
This year's annual hydrogen conference, held on September 26 in Tokyo, saw the participant countries pledging to boost low-carbon hydrogen production to 90 million tonnes per year by 2030.
Minister for Climate Change and Energy, The Hon Chris Bowen MP represented Australia. Other Government representatives came from Japan, Canada, Colombia, Czech Republic, European Commission, Germany, Hungary, Republic of Indonesia, Italy, The Netherlands, Norway, Paraguay, Poland, Korea, South Africa, Spain, Thailand, and Uruguay.
In light of the changing energy situation, discussions on energy security, promotion of involvement in hydrogen initiatives at the national and regional levels, and ways to provide support for the promotion of hydrogen utilization were at the forefront this year.
