Queensland introduces free hydrogen skills development for school students
Queensland secondary students can enrol into free online learning programs, Fuelling a Hydrogen Future: STEM Skills for Secondary Learning, under a new partnership between CQUniversity and the Queensland Government.
The Palaszczuk Government in Queensland has taken steps to nurture a future workforce for the emerging hydrogen industry through a partnership with CQUniversity.
This collaboration has resulted in the development of free online learning programs focused on hydrogen, aimed at secondary school students. The programs, titled "Fuelling a Hydrogen Future: STEM Skills for Secondary Learning," cater to both Years 7–10 and Years 11–12, with a curriculum-aligned approach for easy integration into classrooms.
The initiative aligns with the Hydrogen Industry Workforce Development Roadmap 2022-2032, a dedicated plan released by the Queensland Government in July 2022 to prepare and develop a skilled workforce for the growing hydrogen sector. The online programs are a key action under this roadmap.
The programs were developed in partnership with Stanwell Corporation and ACCIONA Energía. While the micro-credentials earned from the programs are non-creditable, students will receive digital badges and Certificates of Completion.
The program's goal is to foster interest and education in the hydrogen and renewable energy sectors, potentially guiding students towards future career pathways in these fields.
Students who complete the hydrogen-focused micro-credentials may have opportunities to continue their studies through additional courses offered by CQUniversity, further expanding their knowledge and skills.
This initiative not only introduces students to the emerging industry but also contributes to building a sustainable and skilled workforce for Australia's hydrogen sector.
