Scaling Green Hydrogen Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) one step closer to reality
The Scaling Green Hydrogen Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) bid has progressed to stage two of the funding selection process.
The Australian government's Cooperative Research Centres (CRC) grants program aims to enhance the competitiveness, productivity, and sustainability of industries in the country.
Six bids have been approved by Minister for Industry and Science, The Hon Ed Husic MP, to progress to the next stage of the Round 24 bidding process for the Cooperative Research Centres (CRC) grants. One of these six is the Scaling Green Hydrogen Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) based at University of Adelaide Institute for Sustainability, Energy and Resources.
Known for its energy prowess in coal, oil, and gas, Australia has the potential to become a global leader in renewable energy. Green hydrogen is a key component of this transition, offering a sustainable and clean energy source.
The Scaling Green Hydrogen CRC seeks to address the challenges of growing this nascent industry through collaboration and government co-funding. By bringing together various stakeholders, including industry, investors, government bodies, and research institutions, the CRC aims to develop solutions for storage, transport, and distribution of hydrogen. It also aims to adapt electrolyser technologies to Australian conditions and foster collaboration across multiple sectors.
Linking the production of green hydrogen to offtake markets such as green chemicals, sustainable fuels, and green steel is another priority for the CRC. By doing so, it aims to create a domestic green hydrogen industry with local workforce, supply chains, standards, and safety practices. Additionally, the CRC seeks to nurture small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) and foster the growth of a global Hydrogen Equipment, Technology, and Services (HETS) sector.
With global interest in green hydrogen on the rise, the Scaling Green Hydrogen CRC presents an opportunity for organizations to contribute to Australia's net-zero emission targets. By leveraging collaboration and government support, the CRC aims to position Australia as a major player in the renewable energy landscape.
The Federal Government will announce the outcomes of the bids in December 2023.
